Structural Biology Services to the Scientific Community

As part of the NIAID contract, CSBID (formerly CSGID) and SSGCID offer a protein gene-to-structure service to the infectious disease scientific community. All materials and information generated from these services will become publicly available through structure deposition with the Protein Data Bank, materials deposition with the Biodefense and Emerging Infections Research Resource Repository (BEIRRR), and other database resources such as the PSI TargetDB and PepCDB. Applicants will be expected to execute Blanket Confidentiality Agreement (CDA) and Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) with CSBID and SSGCID, similar to the MTA documents used in PSI.

An individual or collaborative groups of investigators interested in proposing a target for structure determination at the CSBID or SSGCID are requested to submit a “Target Selection Proposal” to the appropriate center (see below).

Submit proposal to CSBID

To request targets from the following organisms, please email a short justification (3-7 sentences) and a list of GeneBank protein accession numbers to csgid_targets@medsch.ucr.edu.

Submit proposal to SSGCID

Applicants wishing to request targets from the following organisms should use the SSGCID webform:

Submission may be done by filling out the on-line web-form describing the properties and importance of the protein, availability of genomic or cDNA from the target organism, and how determination of its structure will benefit the scientific community. Applications will receive a proposal number and an acknowledgement of receipt will be e-mailed to the applicant. Proposed targets will be reviewed on a monthly basis by the SSGCID or CSGID Target Selection teams, using similar criteria to those applied to targets selected internally and approved by the NIAID. Approved applications will be given the highest priority for entry into the HTP structure determination pipeline, and the applicants will receive periodic e-mails updating their progress.
